Board of directors

Norbert Van Leuffel, Chairman

Norbert Van Leuffel is a director of Theolia SA. As an independent Consultant/Manager, he has realised various turn-arounds of companies. In 2006, he was nominated Director and Chairman of the audit committee of Thenergo nv. In March 2009 he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors. He previously held senior management positions at General Biscuits/Lu-Brun, KPMG and at Transmarcom. Norbert holds degrees in Accounting and Commercial Sciences, and in Management Consultancy.

Olivier Dellacherie, non-executive Director

Olivier Dellacherie is co-founder of a consulting network helping CEOs to improve efficiency within their companies. He has managed several companies in such domains as industrial distribution, production of equipments and international B2B markets. With a MSc Engineering degree in Electronics and trained in Finance and Business Management, Olivier Dellacherie is a global director with high-level practice in company management and corporate governance.

Johan Keppens, non-executive Director

In October 2009 Johan Keppens was coopted by the Board of Directors as non-executive Director. Since September 2008 Johan is Investment Manager at ParticipatieMaatschappij Vlaanderen (PMV). Previously he worked as Manager in the strategy division of Accenture. Johan graduated as Commercial Engineer at the Catholic University of Leuven.

Yann Massoulier, non-executive Director

In October 2009 the Board of Directors co-opted Yann Massoulier as non-executive Director. Yann Massoulier is head of the energy department of Hestiun Ltd. and has an international management track record. Yann Massoulier graduated in Economics and Management.

Marc Rosiers, non-executive Director

Marc Rosiers is advisor of the Executive Committee Boerenbond. Previously he served as CEO of the General society of Sugar manufacturers in Belgium (SUBEL). Before that he was Strategic Planning Manager of Groep Van Roey. He obtained a degree in Economics at the Catholic University of Leuven and a master Science in Economics at the London School of Economics.

Ivo Van Vaerenbergh, non-executive Director

In March 2009 Ivo Van Vaerenbergh was appointed as Non-Executif Director. Ivo Van Vaerenbergh is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aquafin and Director at Reynaers Aluminium nv, VLEEMO nv, ZiekenhuisNetwerkAntwerpen vzw and Lanbokas/Landbouwkrediet. Previously Ivo Van Vaerenbergh was Chairman of the Board of Directors of VMH (Vlaamse Milieu Holding) and SCK (Belgian Nuclear Research Centre) and he was Director at Indaver. Ivo Van Vaerenbergh is Master in Mechanical Engineering (U Ghent), Master in Environmental Engineering (U Ghent) and Master in Business Administration (MBA) (KU Leuven).

Executive management

Daniël Schurmans, Chief Executive Officer

Daniël Schurmans is Chief Executive Officer of Thenergo. Prior to his appointment as CEO Daniël worked as Business Unit Manager Sustainable Development at ParticipatieMaatschappij Vlaanderen (PMV) and was member of the Board of Directors of Thenergo. He acquired torough insight in the activities of Thenergo and the renewable energy markets.

In 2002, as Vice President Marketing & Product and member of the Board of Directors of Qualiflyer Ltd., he was at the leading edge of the airline company Brussels Airlines. He worked as Commercial Director at IMS in France and acquired a broad experience as Management Consultant in different Belgian companies. Daniël is Engineer in Metallurgy and Materials Science and specialized in Nuclear Energy (KULeuven).

Chris Beliën, General Counsel and Company Secretary

Through his work as Manager and Internal Auditor at several companies, Chris Beliën has been involved with a number of mergers, acquisitions and squeeze outs. He prepared an Initial Public Offering for Mauretus insurance and banking group and helped the group grow from 180 to 450 employees. As Secretary of the Board at Thenergo he is responsible for all legal aspects, corporate and business governance and human resources. Chris Beliën has a degree in Law and experience running his own firm.

Kathleen Markey, Chief Operations Officer

Since March 2010, Kathleen Markey is Chief Operations Officer at Thenergo. She has many years of experience in theenergy sector.

Kathleen Markey holds a degree in Applied Economics and Commercial Engineering. She specialized in Finance and Banking at the Loughborough University of Technology (UK). After graduating she worked, for three years, as researcher at STEM, a research group of the University of Antwerp that wants to contribute to the realization of the ideal of sustainable development. Afterwards Kathleen Markey founded her own company,specialized in energy efficient lighting, where she was Executive Director. Until recently she was responsible for business development of water and energy projects for an engineering company based in Brussels. 

Christophe Van Nevel, Chief Financial Officer

Christophe Van Nevel has been Chief Financial Officer of the Company since January 2008. Previously he was Chief Financial Officer of the Enterprise Business Unit at Belgacom, Belgium’s leading telecom operator. In 2004, as Group Treasurer/CEO of Belgacom Services, he played a leading role in the Group’s €3.6 billion Initial Public Offering. Christophe holds a degree in Economics.

Ron Schuermans, Chief Commercial Officer

Since January 2010 Ron Schuermans is Chief Commercial Officer at Thenergo. As CCO he is responsible for the Energy Portfolio Management, the business development and the building of new projects.

Ron Schuermans holds a degree in Quantitative Economics at UFSIA, Antwerp and obtained a master in Finance at EHSAL, Brussels. He was CEO in different companies and held senior management positions, amongst others in a Nasdaq quoted company. He has a thorough background in the startup of companies and projects, business development and crisis management, both in the ICT and renewable energy sector.
